THE ANNEX CAFE
How It Started
The Annex Cafe began in the winter of 2021 with a simple desire to help hungry people on Main Street. We wanted to open the doors of The Annex and create a place where people could be welcomed, enjoy a meal, share conversation, and experience the kindness of Jesus through ordinary people.
What began as a small step of hospitality quickly became a meaningful part of our life together at Christian Baptist Church. We began meeting neighbours, hearing stories, sharing encouragement, and seeing that ministry often starts with something as simple as food, coffee, conversation, and an open door.
Where We Are
Every Wednesday, all year long, a team of volunteers serves a BBQ lunch from 11:30am to 1pm. Most weeks, about 60 guests receive a hot meal, homemade soup, baked treats, and a warm welcome.
Many of our guests are facing food insecurity, homelessness, isolation, or other significant physical, social, and spiritual needs. The Annex Cafe is more than a meal. It is a place where relationships are built, stories are heard, encouragement is shared, and prayer is offered.
Where We're Going
As this ministry continues, our prayer is that people would experience the love of God in both word and action. We want The Annex Cafe to be a faithful place of welcome, care, connection, and gospel witness in the heart of Newmarket.
The Annex Cafe is one more way we seek to love God and love people so that one more might know and experience a life-changing relationship with the living God.
