THE PORCH PANTRY MINISTRY

Cross on top of a church steeple against a clear blue sky.

How It Started

The Porch Pantry is one way Christian Baptist Church seeks to love our neighbours on Main Street.

During the COVID pandemic, we began meeting people in our neighbourhood who were experiencing food insecurity. Some came to the door of The Annex asking for something to eat or food they could take home to their families. As we prayed and responded, people in the congregation began providing dry and canned food to help meet those needs.

Every time food was placed outside, it disappeared. The need was real, and God was opening a door for us to serve.

How It Works

The Porch Pantry is stocked with non-perishable food for people in need. We now have a double locker that is filled every day of the week, 365 days a year.

Food is provided through the generosity of our church family, people in the community, and funds set aside from our general offering. Together, we have the privilege of helping feed our neighbours with dignity, care, and the love of Jesus.

How You Can Help

You can support the Porch Pantry by praying for our neighbours, donating non-perishable food, or giving financially to the ministry of Christian Baptist Church. All offerings given to CBC are managed through our general fund, and a portion of that goes directly to support the Porch Pantry.

Helpful donations include canned meat, canned vegetables, pasta, pasta sauce, soup, cereal, peanut butter, rice, and other shelf-stable food items. We also take new socks, mitts and gloves, hats and blankets during the winter months.

Donations can be brought to Christian Baptist Church or The Annex. If you have questions about what is most needed, please contact us and we’ll be glad to help.

Why We Do This

Jesus teaches us to care for those in need. As we serve our neighbours, we want to do it with humility, compassion, and faithfulness.

And the King will say, "I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!"

Matthew 25:40 NLT
